EUROPEAN TOURISM FORUM

In 2001 the EU decided to hold an annual European Tourism Forum.  The aim of this forum was, as an important interface between the interest groups active in tourism, to promote and improve communication. 
Several hundred leading representatives of the tourism industry, regional, national and European authorities and institutions in the travel and tourism business, representatives of international organisations, various interest groups and delegates of unions representing workers in tourism all participate in the forum.  
The topics cover a wide range of questions on the industry’s future:

  • 8th EUROPEAN TOURISM DAY and EUROPEAN TOURISM FORUM 2009 8/9 October 2009 - Brussels
    “EU Tourism and the Economic Downturn: New Opportunities for a Sustainable and Prosperous Future?”  

  • 7th European Tourism Forum 18/19 September 2008 - Bordeaux-France
    "The European Tourism Offer: Quality and Sustainability vis-à-vis Demand Trends".

  • 6th  European Tourism Forum 25/26 October 2007 - Algarve
    "Sustainable Management of Tourism Destinations"

  • 5th  European Tourism Forum 16/17 November 2006 - Limassol
    "European Tourism: New Opportunities”, had three main themes for discussion: New Technologies, New Tourists; New Instruments, Innovative Partnerships; and New Trends, New Markets.

  • 4th  European Tourism Forum 19-21 October 2005 - Malta
    Competitiveness and skills/ICT, better regulation for tourism issues, and sustainable development were the main issues of this event.

  • 3rd European Tourism Forum 15/16 October 2004 - Budapest
    Internal market for services in EU25, Employment and training in the tourism industry and new trends in tourism were the main issues of this event.

  • 2nd European Tourism Forum 28/29 November 2003 - Abano Terme
    Impact assessment, taxation and joint promotion of Europe were the main issues of this event.

  • 1st  European Tourism Forum 10 December 2002 - Brussels
    "Agenda 21 – Sustainability in the European tourism sector"
