SUPPORT ACTION TAKEN BY THE ITALIAN TRADE UNIONS

The Italian affiliated organizations FILCAMS-CGIL, FISASCAT-CISL and UILTuCS-UIL have just informed us of difficulties encountered with the Ciga-Starwood chain in Italy. This chain has submitted a plan to improve competitiveness of its Italian operations which includes the closure of some offices, the outsourcing of such services as room cleaning, laundry, maintenance, organization of banquets, as well as the revision of the schedules and the reorganization of rests. These changes could result in the dismissal for overmanning of 654 people including 424 with fixed contract and 230 with seasonal contract.  The Italian organizations call the employees of Ciga-Starwood to

strike all day on January 22, 2009.
