ETF and ITF

The ETF is the European regional organisation of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF). It is composed of free, independent and democratic European trade unions and represents workers in the transport, fishery and tourism services sectors.
The ETF acts autonomously in observance of the general policy and principles of both organisations in all sectoral European affairs.
The Federation has the aim of:

  • Representing the social and economic interests of workers in the transport, fishery and tourism services sectors;

  • Promoting practical international cooperation and joint activities;

  • Observing and acting so that the European unification process leads to progress for workers through the introduction of higher social standards;

  • Supporting equal treatment and the prevention and elimination of discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, race, sexual orientation, disability or religion;

  • Supporting the work of the ITF and the ETUC.

The ETF achieves these aims through trade union initiatives at the European level.
The ETF directs its activities in particular towards:

  • Strengthening the European Union on social, political and democratic levels and the worldwide promotion of peace, growth and social justice.

  • Cooperation with the European Council, EFTA, the EEA and all other bodies of European cooperation which are of significance to the interests of workers in the transport, fishery and tourism services sectors.

  • Development of relations with European employers’ organisations in order to create sustainable social relationships at the European level by way of social dialogue and negotiation.

  • Strengthening the position of trade unions vis-à-vis employers and political institutions.
