EFFAT

EFFAT and IUF

EFFAT is the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and Tourism Trade Unions, which resulted from the merger of the two European trade union federations ECF-IUF and EFA on 11 December 2000. As the parent organisation of 120 national trade unions from 35 countries, EFFAT represents the interests of more than 2.6 million members vis-à-vis the European institutions, European employers’ associations and company managements.
EFFAT is an autonomous European trade union federation. As a member of the ETUC, EFFAT supports a strong and joint representation of members’ interests in all industry-wide European matters. As a regional organisation within the IUF, EFFAT will support the global sectoral representation of members’ interests.
In recent years EFFAT has established European Works Councils in more than 100 transnational companies and is leading a successful social dialogue in, amongst others, the agricultural, hotel and restaurant, catering and sugar sectors.
EFFAT is helping the member organisations from central and Eastern Europe in building strong, free trade unions.
EFFAT has for a long time supported a sustainable change in food and agriculture policy to one that is fair to people, animals and the environment. Only qualitatively high and safe foodstuffs guarantee safe working conditions and jobs.
